I drank tea the entire time I worked. Honest I did.

Conclusion: Looks nothing like the pattern. But it is the look I wanted. I wore this to lunch today and it is too warm to wear indoors for any period of time. Too cute to cover up with a winter coat, so it will be perfect for when winter has a few sunny days and temperatures reach into the 20's. Virtually heatwave weather here in Minnesota.
Fabric: Armani wool angora "curly lamb"-what is that??? Thick, warm and plenty of drape.
Black ambiance lining. I wanted no surprises but basic black. I didn't want my curly lamb to have a Pucci pastel charmeuse tummy.
Design changes: No pockets, no back band. I did interface the front and side fronts with a pro weft interfacing from Pam Erny-this gave some structure to a jacket which really was designed for a matelasse. I did not want boxy, but structured with princess seams and warm. I did apply cuffs which were included in the pattern.

I had no button on hand, and I was racing to beat the clock at midnight. I remembered the antique brooch pin (missing a stone) that was in need of a thick fabric to anchor it. This is perfect. I won't be buying a button. Wish I could find a new stone for it. That will drive me crazy even though you can't see it, I will be thinking about it every time I wear it.
Quit obsessing......

Happy 2010 All! I am taking a break from sewing and blogging for a few weeks. I don't typically sew 3 jackets in one week, and now I need some recovery, to spend some time with my family who I have neglected during the course of this jacket frenzy, and pay attention to a house that looks like the cleaner was fired months ago...........
How funny. I am always sipping on my tea while working as well. I have several cups a day.
ReplyDeleteI love your jacket. It's so soft and beautiful. And I adore the brooch. I hope you have a lovely break. I look forward to continuing to follow your blog in 2010.
Happy New Year.
My first thought was D*MN that is one AMAZING jacket! And don't obsess about the missing stone never noticed until you said something...it's a great jacket and you have been on a jacket frenzy!!!
ReplyDeleteA quick fix while you're searching for the perfect stone--a bit of paint or even nail polish in the stone cup and, Bob's your uncle, you're perfect again!
ReplyDeleteOh how impressed I am with your output in such a short time. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful jacket and it sounds so comfortable...and warm :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break.
3 jackets in a week! You certainly did make the most of your holiday break! The jacket looks cozy and stop obsessing about the brooch, it's perfect. See you in a few weeks!
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI am so amazed (jealous) and proud of you! First, 3 jackets...wow! Second, you know how I love persian lamb and this one is wonderfully curly! And...third, I love a great brooch! It looks perfect! My favorite part of the jacket would be the cuffs. Can't believe you made it last night! Before you take a break, do you want to finish my Chanel?
ReplyDeleteps your house can't be as bad as mine--the vacuum has been in the shop since before Christmas. You can just imagine the pine needles...everywhere!
Sounds like a great way to spend New Years Eve! Very nice!

Thank you for the tip Judith. I know we own an OPI nail polish close to that color, somewhere in this house!
ReplyDeleteOMG, Joanne, can you be any more prolific?! Another fabulous jacket?! Good thing you are taking a break because you're putting the rest of us to shame. Of course I love and want this jacket.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, Fabulous coat and the brooch is extra special. You would have loved the NYE fireworks in Sydney. Sat on my front verandah with a bottle of champagne and a tray of nibbles. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteSuper cool jacket - I love the match of fabric, pattern and that awesome brooch. I didn't even notice the stone was missing until you mentioned it, but it would drive me nutso too, so I'm really no help, am I?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful jacket. I love the texture and the pin is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHave I got this right - you made that amazing, beautiful jacket in one day?!! And a total of 3 jackets in a week?! I am so impressed. That wool angora fabric is lovely - it looks very cosy but very stylish, and the brooch looks just right.
ReplyDeleteI love that curly lamb fabric. That's a terrific jacket, that you should get a lot of wear from this winter. House cleaning equals yuck!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Just looking back over your blog and boy have you made some great things over a short period. This jacket has been on my "to do"list for a long time...Love your version.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year! I can't believe how productive you've been --- wow! This jacket as well as the red one in the previous post turned out fantastic. I love the brooch on the black jacket --- it really makes it special. Great touch. Can't wait to see your projects in 2010!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous jacket - I cannot believe it is your third in a week!! I am still working up the nerve to make a jacket!! It is my perfect jacket - one that you can wear more as a coat than a jacket. I love jackets like that when out shopping!!
ReplyDeleteYour brooch looks awesome on it. I am like you, though. I would totally obsess about the missing stone!
Joanne! I am thinking there must be a 12 step program out there for jacket-o-holics!! Happy happy new year! Are you coming to Philly for the Pattern Review Retreat in May!??

While you aren't likely to be able to match the missing stone, I'm sure you could find Swarowskis in the same size and replace all four of the stones.
ReplyDeleteGreat jacket (the brooch is perfect!). Now, that's a great way to end the year. Enjoy your break - hope there's not too much housecleaning.
ReplyDeleteI love your jacket and the idea to use a brooch as a closure is a stroke of genius! No one but you will notice the missing stone I am sure.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, JoAnne. That is one little snazzy jacket you whipped up. What a great way to spend New Year's Eve. Doing what you love best.
