She needs serious pressing to eliminate the house coat look. I may even insert a waist band. I have to look at her for another 24 hours so I can figure out how to make this duckling into a swan.
She must be finished and out of the sewing room by the 31st. Vintage starts and I want Miss Oscar out of the sewing room.
I agree that a waistband might do the trick. It looks a little maternity with the gathers directly under the bust. Lovely fabric. Still thinking about your vintage sew-a-long. Does it have to be a dress? I have a coat in mind.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a swan in no time! You are right the back looks great and the front just needs a tweak. I like the waistband idea or...If the skirt is full, often I take off some fabric and then gather in just smaller section (couple inches compared to the whole waistband) on each side. Did that make sense?? I am not so sure...but it works for me!

You are right, the back looks fantastic, the front is voluminous. I don't know what the answer is. Would it look better on you than the mannequin? Maybe it only needs a press?
ReplyDeleteI can appreciate wanting to have this project all wrapped up before your big vintage sew along. You are getting a lot of excitement going on the across the web for this one. I can't wait to see what everyone makes. I am still not sure I'll manage to join in. I have house guests till mid-jan and then my husband is firmly resolved to redecorate our dining room which is where I sew. I may just watch and learn!
OMG, that fabric is to die for! I may be the only person in the world who feels OK looking maternity when I'm not pregnant, so I won't say much on that empire waist, except that (1) your coat so far does look like the pattern envelope picture and (2) adding a waistband would probably send a firm "I am not pregnant" vibe. Nice progress!
