Cranky Seamstress

I usually don't post midway through a project, but this may not make it to completion, so, here is Vogue 1207.

A darling dress for D1. The reviews are not very convincing, so maybe I should have listened......

I did make a muslin for the bodice, but the fabric chosen is a silk georgette that is beautful but F-U-S-S-Y. The pattern did suggest a georgette, so I AM following the rules......

I raised the back V by two inches, and while I was worried how low it might appear, I SHOULD have been worried about how puckery the V is (see below)........arrgghhh

I will wait until D1 comes home this weekend and finish this dress. I am determined to make it work. I love the fabric and the cute style, but many pieces, fickle fabric, cranky seamstress.........

  1. Hello! Gorgeous fabric..you need to make it work...somehow! Does the back in staytape? Or maybe underline the dress??? just a few ideas. Love the watercolor floral look this spring!

  2. Oh boy, I just had this exact problem with a silk chiffon... it's so beautiful and you know it's going to give you tons of headaches, but you just can't say "No". Good luck finishing it!!

  4. I hope this works out, it will be gorgeous. I had this pattern in my queue, but can't find it anywhere at the moment. I will see how yours goes and tidy my sewing room in the meantime!

  6. You're getting gaping on the "v" because it's on the bias. Same thing happens in the front of a "v" neckline. Taping that line before sewing prevents the gaping. I would try to ease it back to the original length with stay tape on the back, or easing it with clear elastic. Then some careful pressing.

  9. I have this pattern too, but couldn't decide which sort of fabric to use and how to stop the dress falling off my narrow shoulders. I really hope you can make this work - your fabric is so pretty and will really suit the dress!
