D1 graduated from University yesterday and I finished up this dress within hours of the ceremony.
I am uber on time with every facet of my life but sewing.
I am always switching, changing and tweaking something last minute.
I was inspired by LindsayT's dress
I have used this pattern several times for myself, Burda 3477, but making for another allows for such perfect fit experience. Two muslins and several changes ensured a close fit. I highly recommend this pattern if still available, it allows for much tweaking.
Ruffle basted to neck before final sewing.
Here she is below, with a cool 48 degrees cold snap, cap and gown in hand.
She has four more years of study ahead, so more dresses to come.
Happy Graduation my firstborn. You have worked hard and more work ahead.
Love,
Mum.

ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this dress. Is the fabric from Emma One Sock?
ReplyDeleteNice! I really love how modern this print is & how well it came off in this style :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done on both the dress and the new grad. My DD1 just started Uni this year and the hoopla over her first high distinction was amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic dress - love that last picture of her in it!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty dress. The ruffled neckline is like jewelry, and a great focal point. Congratulations to your daughter. Much success to her.

ReplyDeleteOh I missed seeing this dress. It looks lovely on your daughter. You did a wonderful job! I bought the Pattern Magic books from Amazon"dot"com. I had them in my cart for a few months. When I checked in on them last month, I couldn't believe how much the price had dropped, so I scooped them up.
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration (Linday's version) and great job on your DD's. The ruffle and fabric are a perfect compliment to each other!
ReplyDeleteThe graduation dress is lovely. Sometimes our best sewing is minutes before the deadline. Congratulations to your DD.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your daughter! And what a great dress you made to celebrate such an occasion!
