Thank you for all the kind comments about the graduation dress. It has had much wear!
I joined the Dress Sewalong hosted by Faye. She kindly extended the deadline for today. Yes- I finished hand stitching an hour ago.......
INSPIRATION A navy Milly dress
PATTERN: Simplicity Amazing Fit. Two muslins of bodice, not hard to do, and the fit was really good. This is a GREAT pattern.
FABRIC: A navy raffia from EOS. It has the feel of a thicker linen but with a sheen of silk. An intriguing fabric.
My ties had to have 4 rows of topstitching like the Milly ties.
LINING: I chose a bemberg lining for the bodice, and a silk organza for the skirt to give it some body and prevent creasing. This turned out to be a good idea.
(Please excuse the toes)
CONCLUSION: I think this might be my favorite sheath dress pattern.
The navy was true, the fabric was interesting to work with, and maybe the weather will warm up and the skies dry up....... soon.....
Highly recommended!
Very pretty dress, the tie in the middle is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific dress on you. Thanks for the reminder about silk organza for linen. I'm about to start a linen project and that's the perfect answer for it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great dress in my favorite color no less. Great fit too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a favourite pattern of mine too. I've already made two version and am contemplating a third winter wonder. Love the navy blue and the tie belt is a perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, and flattering too! It fits you very well.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great pattern and I LOVE your version. That fabric is simply gorgeous. And such a great fit.
ReplyDeleteYour dress looks very elegant - that beautiful fabric is very chic and expensive looking! I too have made this pattern and really like it because it makes getting a good fit so much easier - yours looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteI love the fit and the tie really sets it off.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress. JoAnne. I really like the texture of the navy fabric.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stylish dress. Love that navy blue color!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty. I love navy as a neutral because it pairs well with so many colors and is less harsh that your typical little black dress. I can see you getting lots of use out of this one. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great dress. Love how you copied it and it looks so not home sewed. Congratulations.
